One of the Ohio State University's biggest annual awards was presented Monday afternoon to a teacher at the Mansfield regional campus.

A surprise party of sorts was thrown for Doctor Steven Joyce, for being one of ten teachers across the state's largest university to win the Alumni Award for Distinguished Teaching.

A total of 250 teachers were nominated, with the ten winners selected by a panel of previous winners, faculty, and students.

Joyce receives membership in the OSU Academy of Teaching, a $3,000 honorarium, a $1,200 increase to his base salary, and a gold medallion to wear with his academic regalia.

He will also attend an awards banquet next month, and will be honored during halftime of a Buckeyes' football game next fall.
