An investigation is underway by the State Fire Marshals Office into the cause of an early morning fire at a home in Bellville. The fire started just after 4 a.m. at 121 Eller Road.

The Washington Township Fire Department was the first unit to arrive on the scene.

"We arrived on the scene with our first engine. Heavy flames and smoke was coming from the back of the home," Washington Twp. Fire Capt. Charles Swank said.

"We were able to make an attack and a bulk of the fire knocked down within the first five minutes. The homeowner made it out of the house with her animals before we arrived," Swank said.

Troy Township Fire Department and Jefferson-Monrow Township Fire Department provided mutual aid.

The Richland County Chapter of the American Red Cross is providing assistance to the homeowner.
