Some scary moments for a truck driver early Tuesday morning in Crawford County.

Brad Edgington says he smelled smoke in the cab as he traveled east on U.S. 30 near State Route 602. He pulled over safely.  But by the time he got out of the truck, flames had already appeared from under the hood.  And what started as a small fire quickly consumed the truck.

Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but not before the cab of the truck was gutted.

Edgington was not hurt. But he's just a bit upset by the loss. He was just months away from making his final payment on the truck.

Edgington was transporting a coil of steel from Riverdale, Illiniois to Cleveland.  That cargo was not damaged by the fire.

Authorities did close down both eastbound lanes of U.S. 30 for a short time while they fought the fire.  That created quite a backup.  But things should be moving again through the area.
