The Mansfield School Board made some decisions about school closings following a lengthy meeting Monday night, in which forty people commented on the district's bleak financial situation. The board voted to close Newman Elementary School starting next year. That doesn't sit well with Dusti Reece, the mother of a Newman student. She says it's a great school with great teachers and her child enjoys going there. The Mansfield School Board decided to keep the Spanish Immersion School open, and scale back use of the Springmill Learning Center. The Financial Planning and Supervision Commission, which was appointed by the state to help Mansfield Schools get out of fiscal emergency, recommends three schools be closed and 100 employees be laid-off.
