Investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a fire that destroyed much of an Ontario home Thursday morning.

The house, at 1025 Elizabeth Avenue, just north of West Fourth Street, sustained heavy fire damage.  The home is now uninhabitable, but the family who lived there is hoping to salvage some belongings.

The 9-1-1 calls came in just before 9:30 a.m.  And the two-alarm fire involved firefighters from several area departments, including Springfield Township, Troy Township and Mansfield.

Two people were inside the home when flames erupted.  A neighbor called 911, then went to the home to assist them to safety.  Chaise Nelson was alseep inside.  He says he awoke to find the deck consumed by flames. He then ran to his sister's bedroom to wake her, and help her to safety.  They escaped through a ground-floor window.

Right now, there is no word on what may have sparked the fire.  The American Red Cross is assisting the family with living arrangements.
