Conference explores effects of violence and abuse

  Original Published: 4/16/2014The Mental Health and Recovery Board in Ashland County in conjunction with the national Academy on Violence and Abuse hosted a conference Wednesday at the John C. Myers Convocation Center at Ashland University in recognition of April being Child Abuse and Neglect Awareness Month. Over 300 people attended the conference which addressed the findings from the Adverse Childhood Experiences Study, which looks at the effects of abuse and neglect in ones early life and the long lasting impact. The keynote speakers were Dr. Vincent J. Felitti, co-principal investigator of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE)Study, Dr. David L. Corwin, president of the Academy on Violence and Abuse (AVA, Dr. Robert W. Block, former president of the American Academy of Pediatrics and Dr. David Schneider, chair and professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine at St. Louis University. Those in attendance received a certificate.
