Mansfield City Schools Board of Education and Financial Planning Commission met Tuesday afternoon to vote on a final version of the district recovery plan.

The plan won unanimous approval, which now means 148 full and part-time positions of district employees will be cut. That's 90 teachers, five administrators and 53 support staff.

Also included, the approval of the closing of Newman Elementary School after completion of the current school year, as well as the blending of special needs and preschool classes.

Parents, Teachers and community members were invited to speak regarding these issues. There's also a concern that Springmill Learning Center will close because of these cuts. Many community members spoke of the importance and fear of losing this center.

The state-mandated, four-member financial planning and supervision commission was tasked with eliminating the district's $3.6 million budget deficit after the district was placed in a state of fiscal emergency in December.

The commission has until May 2 to submit a financial recovery plan to the Ohio Department of Education. To view the reduction in force lists and recovery plan information, visit: http://www.tygerpride.com/
