A groundbreaking ceremony was held Monday for the middle school for the Ashland City Schools. Administrators, board members, students and community leaders took part in the celebration that has been 17 months in the making.

"This is a great time for the Ashland City Schools. We haven't had a groundbreaking in over 50 years. This is exciting for our community as we move forward," superintendent Dr. Doug Marrah said.

The new middle school will ne built behind the existing high school. The district's new facilities also include a new kindergarten through third grade elementary school and an auditorium/entry way for the high school.

In November 2012, voters approved a 3.7-mill bond issue for the new buildings.
