After an impressive turnout for last years inaugural event, Tough Mudder will once again return to the Mansfield area this Spring, bringing along with it thousands of participants and spectators.

The anticipation for this years running of the event, on May 17 and 18, is even greater than last years says Tough Mudder Head of Communications Ben Johnson, with Saturday's event already sold-out and Sunday filling up fast.

Johnson believes the unique terrain offered in the Mansfield area is a big reason why the interest is so high for the event.

"Here [in Mansfield], we've got a consistency of mud that we just can't get anywhere else." Johnson says. He maintains that this allows the crew to create an experience that participants won't find at any other course in the world.

Preparations for this years event have already begun with construction underway near Mansfield Lahm Airport. Alex Patterson, Vice President of Branding for Tough Mudder, says the 11 mile course is roughly halfway completed and that finishing touches will be completed in the coming weeks.

Patterson says this years course will be slightly different from a year ago, but the same trademark obstacles that have made Tough Mudder popular will certainly be present. Patterson added that additional obstacles called the "Mudder Legion" will be available for participants who ran through the course last year.

He anticipates that many people who ran through last years course will return for round two and that it's pretty amazing how many others will participate for the first time.

"It always does sort of surprise us to see the thousands and thousands of people out on site. "Johnson says. "But at the same time, people are looking for those challenges." Becoming a Tough Mudder isn't for everybody though, Johnson says, but commends the chosen few who take on the difficult task.

The Tough Mudder Ohio event is already 99% sold out, but there are spots still available on Sunday. For more information visit https://toughmudder.com/events /2014-ohio
