Around 5:30 Tuesday evening, a serious one-vehicle accident occurred on Ohio 603, just West of Rome Road near Shiloh.

The Shiloh Fire Department, Richland County Sheriff's Dept. and State Highway Patrol arrived on the scene to find 51-year-old Lester Murphy of Greenwhich unresponsive, after failing to navigate a turn.

Sergeant Jason Murfield with the Highway Patrol says "the scooter ended up turning over" after Murphy went off the right side of the roadway, then "struck the ditch [and] was unable to keep control of it."

Murfield says Murphy was Med-Flighted to Akron General Hospital with "serious injuries" and would later be transferred to the surgical unit for additional attention.

A number of factors could have played into Murphy's losing control according to Murfield, who says the wreck is still under investigation.
