Shelby Mayor Marilyn John won a tight republican primary race for Richland County Commissioner, defeating Keith Markley by a tally of 3,095 votes to 2,514, with David Morgenstern finishing in third with 778 votes.

Mayor John will now face off with Mansfield City Council President Phil Scott in the November election, but says Richland County has many issues to work on and she would be thrilled to help solve them.

Markley says he was obviously disappointed to lose the race, but plans to rejoin FEMA because he is a service oriented person.
