Galion Intermediate Students Sun-sational Readers

  Original Published: 5/13/2014Right to Read Week is being celebrated in a unique way at Galion Intermediate School. All 460 third, fourth, and fifth graders are spending an extra 60-90 minutes each day reading, under the theme "We Are Sun-sational Readers". The goal is to read 25,000 pages. The students had read 19,000 by Tuesday morning. They wore sunglasses Monday, beach hats Tuesday, Hawaiian shirts and shorts Wednesday, and carry beach towels Thursday. Friday features a seashell scavenger hunt and a tricycle race between Superintendent Mark Stefanik and school principal Cindy Parrott. As the school year draws to a close, Parrott hopes this special way of observing Right to Read Week inspires her students to include reading in their summer vacations.
