Health Dept Investigates Measles Case, Extends Contract

With the discovery of a confirmed case of measles in Richland County and up to 16 other suspected cases, Richland Public Health continues to investigate the potential outbreak.

Director of Nursing, Amy Schmidt, says when a patient is discovered to have a "rash illness" that Richland Public Health conducts "an in-depth investigation with that patient and their contacts" to help keep people safe. Schmidt says measles can be problematic to those that are prone to illness, such as very young children.

And to help ensure our young people stay healthy, Schmit says Mansfield City Schools Board of Education would vote to renew their contract with the county healthy department. The school health contract "provides physicals and other school health services" according to Schmidt. She says Richland Public Health will assist board hired school nurses.
