Mansfield Memorial Park Has 45th Annual Avenue Of The Flags

Mansfield Memorial Park held its 45th annual Avenue of the Flags ceremony. The ceremony is held by the VFW 9943's Ladies Auxiliary members.

"We have this every year, rain or shine," says Carole Kemplin, event chairman. "Every year, we have tried to make it a better and better ceremony."

Previously, the Avenue of Flags Ceremony was going to have a little extra showmanship by the 179th Airlift Wing, but due to unforeseen circumstances, their bonus presentation was canceled.

"What we always wanted to do was have a fly-over," said Kemplin. "One year, they were going to (show) a C-130, but it was too cloudy. Now, with the budget cuts, they're just not able to do it. But that's one thing we've always wanted to have done."

This year's ceremony included a speech by Senior Airman Andrew Litian of the 179th Airlift Wing. Some of this year's other event activities included the reading of poems, the playing of patriotic music, and the Roll Call of Flags.
