One of Mansfield's longest- service police officers is calling it a career, after 46 years. John Wendling, head of the Major Crimes Bureau, was given a grand send-off Friday, joined by his large family including former police officer brothers Jan and Joe, and cousin Gordie. Wendling says he went into the right line of work and leaves satisfied with his accomplishments. His golden years will be a combination of pool-side relaxation, and globe- trotting. Wendling also served in the U- S Marine Corps for four years, and three years in Vietnam.
