Division II Track Regional Held At Lex

The Division II regional track was held Saturday afternoon at Lexington with the top four athletes in each event earning their way to state competition next Friday and Saturday in Columbus. In the high jump Shelby's Cody Stine finished first with a jump of 6'7". In the shot put Eric Jackson of Clear Fork was second with a toss of 56'9.5". Ontario's Cole Gehrisch and Bronson Krull were third and fourth each with a toss of 55'1.5".

In running events, in the girls 100 and 200 meters Brittany Parsell of Bucyrus finished second in both in a time of 12.4 and 25.5. In the boys hurdles Lenell Shelby of Ontario advanced in both, the 110 meter hurdles, 4th in 15.05 and 3rd in the 300 meter hurdles in 38.2. In the girls 4x200 the Clear Fork team of Deijah Swihart, Brittany Hart, Sam Basham and Jordyne Helinski finished first in 1:44.1. The Clear Fork girls 4x100 meter relay team of Swihart, Basham, Helinski and Elizabeth Staab was second in 49.6 to Galion's 4x100 team of Laura McElligott, Michaela Slone, Sydney Hunt and Clair Erlsten with a winning time of 49.2.

The Galion boys 4x100 team of Jacob Fryer, Drake Barnett, Khnennter Hughes and Alex Armisted also moved on to next week with a fourth place finish in 43.2. In the girls 1,600 meter run Lady Lex's Dominique Clairmonte finished first in 5:03.1. On the boy's side Willard's Brady Deaner advanced to next week with a fourth place finish in 4:27.7. In the girls 400 meters Rachel Miller of Ontario finished second in 58.3. In the boys 200 meter dash Ontario's Cameron Mack was also second in 22.4.

In the girls 3,200 meter run Lexington's Lillian Freundlich finished 4th in 11:35.1. Of note, Hannah Campbell of River Valley won the 3,200 in a time of 10:49 which broke the Division II regional record set in 1986 by Norwalk's Tarci Meyer. On the boys side Brett Cortelletti finished first at 9:45.7, with Lexington's Nick Stricklen runner-up at 9:46.8. Finally, in the girls 4x400 meter relay Willard's team of Alivia Parrott, Brittany Fry, Bri Holthouse and Marie Thornton finished second in 4:03.4.

State track and field competition for all division will take place next Friday and Saturday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.
