Richland County Children Services played host to one of four Ohio Court-Appointed Special Advocate, or CASA, Citizen Review Panels in the agency's Futty Training and Learning Center. Richland County Juvenile Court Judge Ron Spon says the advocates are specially trained volunteers that support the work of the juvenile court and agencies like Children Services by becoming guardians in dependency, neglect and abuse cases. Judge Spon says the goal of the citizen review panel is to examine how well local agencies are serving the best interests of dependent, neglected and abused children. These citizen review panels also will help the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services evaluate the effectiveness of state policies and procedures, guiding children in foster care.
