30 Mansfield Senior High Seniors Still Await Graduation

Mansfield Senior High School's senior class had 173 students this year, but 30 could not attend Saturday's commencement because they were ineligible to graduate. But they will have the chance to get caught-up and attend their own commencement.

Superintendent Brian Garverick says there are two key reasons why the30 students did not graduate. Either they didn't pass all sections of the Ohio Graduation Test, or didn't complete the required credits. But they were given advance notice and time to get caught- up during the school year.

Garverick says telling a parent their child cannot graduate with their classmates is the hardest bad news he ever has to deliver.

The 30 students can make up the credits or OGT , then graduate this summer. Credit recovery classes begin next week and take six weeks to complete.

Another commencement, with the full pomp and circumstance, will be held August 21. Seven of the twelve seniors at the Mansfield Integrated Learning Center were among those not graduating this past weekend.

Garverick says the investigation into alleged improprieties among some staff members at the Integrated Learning Center was not a factor for more than half of its seniors not graduating.
