Area fire department receives $10,000 grant

The state of Ohio is helping an area fire department with the equipment it needs through a special grant.

The Monroe Township-Lucas Fire Department received a grant for $10,000 from the State Fire Marshal. The money will be used to purchase protective clothing.

The fire department located at 43 S. Union St. has a dozen firefighters on staff.

Former Madison Township Fire Chief Chris Niswander, is the new chief of the department. Niswander replaces former Chief Jimmy Sweat Jr. who resigned.
