The Huron County city of Willard is beginning the arduous process of cleaning up Thursday, after being hammered Wednesday night by powerful thunderstorms.

Acting Willard City Manager Shawn Tappel says strong, straight-line winds connected with the storms, uprooted trees, brought down power lines and caused severe damage at the city's parks. Tappel did clear up one rumor circulating in the town, saying Willard's water quality was not affected by the storms.

He also says rumors of possible funnel clouds in the area have no confirmation and the National Weather Service Office reports there's been no evidence of any tornado touchdown.

At last check, AEP reports more than 2,000 customers in Huron County are still without power this noon hour.
