A 17-year-old boy drowns in a large, deep pond Monday afternoon at 182 Timmerman Road in Franklin Township.

William Dawson, from Kings Mountain North Carolina, was visiting his great-grandparents, when he went for a swim with his sister and another girl. The boy was in the water for at least forty minutes before he was found by two divers, on the bottom, in eighteen foot deep water.

A Metro Health Medical Center Life-Flight helicopter was called-in from Cleveland to stand-by in case he was taken out alive, and for its EMT's to help try to revive the boy. But the effort failed, the helicopter left, and the Richland County Coroner was called to the scene.
