A major decision for the future of the city of Shelby was voted on during a council meeting Monday evening. Among other items on the agenda, Council members  approved an agreement with Arcelormittal for an expansion of its welded tube facility in Shelby.

This project has been in the works for a few years and Shelby  Mayor Marilyn John explains the importance of this decision. The expansion will inject 36 million dollars in the local economy as well as 45 jobs.

Work is expected to begin late this year and Arcelormittal hopes to bring people on towards the end of 2015.
