The landscaping talents of a few Ontario residents and businesses has garnered them a top award. The city of Ontario honored the winners with its first annual Beautification Award.

The properties were judged on how they beautified the landscape. Judges looked for curb appeal, use of space, uniqueness and appearance. One business and six residences participated.

Mechanics Bank was the business winner. They will receive lunch for 25 people at Outback Steakhouse.

In the residential category, Patty Poland, 3359 Elmstone Court, was the first place winner. She receives dinner for six at Outback Steakhouse.

The second place winner was Tonya Flanegan, 1765 Victoria Court and Robert Cleckner, 3550 Ridgestone Drive was the third place winner.

Mayor Randy Hutchinson says next year the residential section of the contest will be extended to three categories, curb appeal, back yard and overall.
