Governor Perry To Deploy NationalGuard Troops To The Border

Texas Governor Rick Petty is taking matters into his own hands. Monday, he announced he is sending a thousand National Guard troops to the border. The move comes after tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors from Central America have crossed into the U.S. this year in a surge that's being called a humanitarian crisis. Perry says he feels he has to do something. "I will not stand idly by while our citizens are under assault and little children from Central America are detained in squalor," Perry said. "We are too good a country for that to occur." The White House says it has not yet received the formal communication required for Perry to deploy guard troops. Both Perry and President Obama have the authority to deploy National Guard troops but whoever authorizes it has to pay for it. If Perry follows through, then Texas will have to pick up the cost.
