The financing is in place for the purchase of new radios for the Richland County Sheriff's department, and computer-aided dispatching. The commissioners, after meeting Thursday with treasurer Bart Hamilton for an Investment Advisory Board session, approved borrowing $1,026,000 from the county's investment portfolio. The Multi-Agency Radio Communication System will fill dead-spots, where deputies are unable to send or receive radio transmissions, putting them at risk when calling for back-up. The MARCS radios should be in use by November, while it will take a year for the dispatching system to be up and running. It will allow the county's dispatch center to handle calls for every police and fire department in the county, except Mansfield.
