The United Way of Richland County's annual Day of Caring was held Wednesday.

The Day of Caring starts at the South Park pavilion for a briefing on the projects that must be done, and the presentation of two checks to start the United Way's campaign.

One was for $11,200 from Power of the Purse, the other $7000 from an AFL CIO golf outing. Then the volunteers fan-out to 20 locations, including Friendly House where clothing was sorted for a giveaway, the Harmony House annex for painting, and Raemelton Therapeutic and Equestrian Center for cleaning.

The United Way of Richland County has an ambitious $1.7- million goal for this campaign. That's because the need for services from its 24 member agencies is increasing.
