Original Published: 8/14/2014 The State Highway Patrol says an OVI checkpoint will be held in Crawford County Friday night. Bucyrus Highway Patrol Post Commander Lieutenant Michael Vinson says OVI checkpoints are designed to not only deter impaired driving, but to proactively remove dangerous drivers from roadways. Vinson says, "Based on provisional data, there were 12,138 OVI-related traffic crashes in 2013 in which 300 people were killed in Ohio. State troopers make an average of 25,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers." The low-manpower OVI checkpoint is funded by federal grant monies. The location of the checkpoint will be announced Friday morning.
