Members of the U.S. Marshals Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force arrested Steven Sanderfer, 23, in a hotel room in Galion Monday afternoon. Sanderfer was wanted by the Mansfield Police Department for the August 7 shooting of Gerrice Stallworth at a Deweese Place residence.

Task Force Officers initiated a fugitive investigation on August 8 and determined that Sanderfer had fled the Mansfield area. Officers conducted numerous interviews which led the investigation to Wooster, Columbus and Marietta, Ohio. This past weekend the task force received information that Sanderfer had returned to the Mansfield area and the investigation ultimately ended at a hotel in the 100 block of North Portland Way, Galion.

Task Force Officers and Galion Police Department located Sanderfer in a room of the hotel and he was arrested without further incident. Officers also located cocaine and drug paraphernalia in the room, which was registered in the name of a female associate who then fled from the nearby Pizza Hut when she observed officers at the hotel. Galion Police Department is handling the drug investigation and will be filing charges on the female, whom Officers believed had been helping Sanderfer continue his run over the past 10 days.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott stated, “Our task force stays on the hunt and does not back down on these cases. Our team did a great job staying on top of this case and bringing this dangerous fugitive to justice without any further incident.”
