The Need for Speed 5K Coming This Weekend

A 5K in our backyard takes place this weekend to benefit a local family. Adison Delp was born with Arthrogryposis Multiplex Conginita and has little to no movement below the neck. He is in need of several things, but the family's main focus is a new power chair for Adison.

He loves to play alongside his brothers and is due for a new chair with enough speed to keep up with them. Hence, the name of the 5k "The Need for Speed" Insurance will cover a good portion of the 25 thousand dollar chair, but the Delp's still need to 3 thousand dollars to break even.

Since Josh's wife stays home to raise and home school their children, they live off one paycheck. They're hoping to raise enough through donations and race entries this weekend.

If they raise more than they need, they'll put the extra money towards those things he can "be a kid with". A fishing pole, a special Wii Remote and a hands-free bowling device. Since these custom items cost so much, the family doesn't splurge on them simply because they can't afford to.

The 5k takes place at South Park Pavilion, off Brinkerhoff Road this Saturday, August 30th. Registration is only $20. The kids race begins at 8:30 and the adult race at 9. So far, they have almost 100 runners registered and close to $800 raised.

The family is also holding a free power soccer clinic, a competitive sport designed for power wheelchair users in September. Adison plays in the league and they invite you to come out and watch the event! visit adaptivesportsohio.org for more info.
