Baseball as it was played in 1860 was showcased Sunday in Shelby. The Mansfield Independents, a real team back in those days, and the newly-formed Loudonville Buzzards played two vintage baseball games at the Knights of Columbus. The Independents are famous in baseball history for playing in the first professional game against the Cincinnati Red Stockings in 1869. The Red Stockings were the first team whose players were paid, with their salaries seven times that of the average working man.
