A couple of accidents on a stretch of Ohio 423 in Marion claimed the life of one man and injured two firefighters.

The State Highway Patrol says Anthony Smith, 34, of Marion, was found Thursday at 12:45 p.m. in his 2006 Chevrolet Uplander unresponsive. The truck was in a ditch on Ohio 423 south of Marion Cardington Road.

The patrol says Smith was southbound on Ohio 423 when he traveled off the right side of the road and into the ditch striking the embankment. Smith was transported to Marion General Hospital where was pronounced dead.

The second crash occurred after the Pleasant Township Fire Department responded to the scene. Upon arrival to accident the ambulance parked in the northbound lane was struck from behind by a 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac. Two Pleasant Township firefighters sustained minor injuries as a result of the second crash.

The State Highway Patrol was assisted at the scene by Pleasant Township Fire Department, Marion Township Fire Department, Marion County Coroner's Office and ODOT.
