Last month, the OHSAA put in place the point differential rule in football, a "mercy rule" that says in the second half anytime the score differential reaches 30 or more points, the following change would be made that the clock would continue to run unless their is an injury, a charged time out is called, the period ends, or a score occurs. If at any time during the second half the score goes below 30, the clock will then return to regular timing. As teams get ready to play the NCOFCA All-Star Game at Lexington, the reaction by three coaches Justin Vorhies of New London, Jeff Cole an assistant at Ashland and Erik Will of Shelby was to sum up luke warm. Vorhies says he is not really sure how he feels about it, Cole says if you happen to have a good club who is having a tough night it can make a big comeback tough, while Will says we're all big boys on the varsity and coaches can police this themselves. The rule takes effect this season. The OHSAA already has a run differential rule in place for baseball and girls softball. Anytime the differential is more than ten runs after five innings the game is called.
