Galion-Mansfield and Ashland Post 88 are both off to shaky starts to their seasons in the Buckeye American Legion League, but are well aware of their deficiencies.

At 2-6-1, Galion-Mansfield head coach Ray Peterson says that defense has clearly been the biggest challenge for his squad.

"We haven't been fielding well," Peterson says. "It's been killing us so far this year."

Galion-Mansfield committed seven errors in a loss to Bucyrus Tuesday evening and Peterson says that's around the teams average per game so far this season. For Ashland Post 88 (3-7), head coach Rob Oberecht says he "can't complain about the defense," but the team has another issue that's been holding them back.

"The big things been our pitching," says Oberecht. "We have a tendency to get behind and throw it down the middle and they get the hit."

This would transpire in Wednesday's game against Galion-Mansfield, as Ashland starting pitcher T.J. Eden gave up 8 hits and 4 runs in just 3 innings of play. Peterson says his offense has consistently put runs on the board all season, but the defense has struggled to hold on to leads.

Oberecht, on the other hand, says his team has been unable to respond offensively in key moments.

"We haven't got the hit when we've needed it," says Oberecht.

His bunch would not respond to Galion-Mansfield's offensive output either, after taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning on a 2-run blast by catcher Jake Armstrong.

The game would be cancelled after just 3 innings with Galion-Mansfield out in front 4-2, before thunder storms moved into the area.
