Mansfield Man Pleads Guilty To Easter Slaying

A Mansfield man accused of killing a man who allowed him to stay in his home has pleaded guilty to the crime.
Daniel Redman, 28, pleaded guilty Thursday in Richland County Common Pleas Court to aggravated murder with a gun specification and theft for the April 4 shooting of John Williamson, 61, at his home at 138 Redwood Road.
Redman had been staying with Williamson for about a month before the shooting after being homeless for more than year.
Prosecutors say Redman went to Williamson's home and shot him in the back of the head as he lay in his bed.
Redman originally pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity, but was later ruled competent to stand trial.
In exchange for his plea, prosecutors dismissed charges of murder with a gun specification, aiding and abetting aggravated murder, receiving stolen property and burglary.
Judge James Henson sentenced Redman to 23 years to life in prison.

Man Indicted In 2000 Murder Of Mansfield Man

An Ohio man has been indicted in the slaying of a 1993 Mansfield Senior High School valedictorian.
William Justin Miller, 35, was indicted on charges of aggravated murder, murder and aggravated robbery in the 2000 murder of Kohler J. Barker.
Columbus Police say Miller and an accomplice killed Barker, whose body was found June 7, 2000 in the College Park Harrison House apartments at 222 W. Lane Ave.
Columbus Police say Barker's involvement in drug trafficking was the motive for the robbery and murder.
On June 3, 2000, a neighbor called police to report that she heard yelling and screaming coming from Barker's apartment. Officers knocked on the door of the apartment but left after no one answered. A worker at the apartment complex found Barker's body four days later.
An autopsy determined Barker had bled to death after being cut with a sharp object.
Barker had been a student at Ohio State University until withdrawing in 1998.
Miller is serving a 38-month sentence in the Pickaway Correctional Institution after he was convicted of forgery, theft and receiving stolen property.
