ONTARIO, OH - During the Ontario Board of Education Meeting held Tuesday evening in the Ontario High School Library, Mr. Randy Harvey, Treasurer, was formally recognized by a representative of the Auditor of State's office.

Ms. Lindsay Kuhn Blair from the Administrative Division of the Auditor of State's office presented Mr. Harvey with the Auditor of State Award. Lindsay shared with the Ontario Board of Education that representatives from the Auditor of State's office conduct approximately 6,000 audits of various entities throughout the state, and less than 5% are eligible to receive such a prestigious award.

Lindsay further stated, "Mr. Harvey's excellent record keeping has earned him the Auditor of State Award". Lindsay commended Mr. Harvey for "being an excellent steward of the Ontario taxpayers dollars".

The Auditor of State Award is presented to local governments and school districts upon the completion of a financial audit. Entities that receive the award meet the following criteria of a "clean" audit report:

The entity must file timely financial reports with the Auditor of State's office in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles);

The audit report does not contain any findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or questioned costs;

The entity's management letter contains no comments related to:

  • Ethics referrals
  • Questioned costs less than $10,000
  • Lack of timely report submission
  • Reconciliation
  • Failure to obtain a timely Single Audit
  • Findings for recovery less than $100
  • Public meetings or public records
Mr. Harvey has held the position of Treasurer of the Ontario Local Schools since 1989.
Superintendent Lisa Carmichael states, "Mr. Harvey is hands down the best treasurer that I have ever had the privilege of working with in my 30 years in public education. We are extremely fortunate to have a man of his caliber overseeing every single dollar that is spent in our district. Mr. Harvey is very deserving of this incredible award. Everyone in our district is proud of Randy. This is quite an honor."
