Seven Injured In Minor School Bus Versus Semi Accident

RUGGLES, OH - The Ashland Highway Patrol Post is investigating a 2 vehicle crash on U.S. Route 224 at Township Road 1101, Ruggles Township, Ashland County, Ohio.

On February 17th, 2017 at approximately 7:35 a.m., a Mapleton School Bus driven by Donald Beattie, of Greenwich Ohio, 59 years of age, was southbound on Township Road 1101. A 2016 Freightliner commercial vehicle driven by Jeffery Garrison, of Ridge Farm Illinois, 54 years of age, was eastbound on U.S. 224. The school bus failed to yield the right of way from the stop sign on Township Road 1101 at U.S. 224. The commercial vehicle struck the rear right quarter of the school bus as it crossed over U. S. 224. Seven students sustained minor injuries from the incident. Names of the students will not be released. Neither the school bus driver nor the commercial vehicle driver were injured. U.S. 224 was closed for approximately 45 minutes as a result of the crash.

The Ashland County Sheriff’s Office, Ruggles-Troy Fire Department, Sullivan Fire Department, Firelands EMS, Savannah Fire Department and an Ohio State Highway Patrol Commercial Vehicle Inspection Officer all assisted at the scene.

Drugs and or alcohol are not considered to be a factor.

The crash remains under investigation.
