West Nile Virus Presence Confirmed In Galion

GALION,OH- The Ohio Department of Health and the Galion Health Commissioner confirmed the presence of West Nile Virus in a mosquito trap in Galion. 

This is the first reported West Nile Virus (WNV) Mosquito pool found this season in the City of Galion. 

The positive pool was collected on July 20th in Galion, after the Galion City Health Department began mosquito surveillance activities this summer through a grant from the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.

On August 7th, The Ohio Department of Health laboratory confirmed that the sample tested positive for WNV. 

The City of Galion's most recent mosquitos spraying took place on August 5th and 6th. 

West Nile Virus is transmitted to humans and animals through a mosquito bite.
