Troopers Investigating Serious Injury Crash Near Marion

MARION, OH - One person was seriously injured in a Sunday night crash on U.S. Route 23 outside of Marion.

According to the Marion post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a 2005 Chevrolet Express passenger van driven by Becky L. Porter, age 54 of Shelby, OH was rear-ended by a 2017 Dodge Caravan driven by Dan J. Lydick Jr., 27, of Sterling Heights, Michigan. 

A preliminary investigation indicates the passenger van was trying to use a median crossover to turn around after missing an exit when it was struck in the rear. 

Lydick was flown by MedFlight helicopter to the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Passengers in the van were transported by EMS squads to OhioHealth Marion General Hospital.

The crash remains under investigation and the Marion State Highway Patrol would like to speak to any passers-by who may have witnessed the crash.

Also responding to the crash were the Marion County Sheriff's Office, Ohio Department of Transportation, Marion Township Fire Department, Pleasant Township Fire Department, Fort Morrow EMS, Battle Run EMS, First Consolidated EMS, First Advance EMS, Life Support EMS, and Medcare EMS.
