The crash involved a silver 2003 Cadillac DeVille driven by a 79-year-old Marion resident, Richard Butler, and a maroon 1988 Mercury Cougar driven by another Marion resident, 40-year-old Joseph Brown.

Butler was northbound on the US-23 exit ramp to SR-98 as Brown was heading eastbound on SR-98. Butler and Brown were transported to Marion General Hospital by Battle Run Fire and EMS with non-life threatening injuries. Butler was later transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. Butler's passenger, 89-year-old Richard Straub, was transported to Marion General Hospital by Fort Morrow Fire and EMS. Straub was later pronounced deceased at Marion General Hospital.
