MANSFIELD, OH - At approximately 7:40 PM Tuesday night, the U.S. Marshals' Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) arrested a suspect involved in a murder.

24-year-old Deshawn A. Dowdell was arrested in Mansfield, at a Wood Street apartment on a murder warrant that was originally issued by the Mansfield Division of Police. Dowdell is a suspect in the homicide of Terrence T. Harris, which occurred on April 8th, 2018 at a residence located at 1340 West 4th St. Mansfield, Ohio.

During the arrest, Task Force Officers worked with the METRICH Enforcement Unit to locate several pieces of evidence related to drug trafficking. After obtaining a search warrant, METRICH detectives seized roughly 400 grams of heroin, 500 grams of fentanyl, two handguns, over $3,000 in U.S. currency, and other assorted drug paraphernalia including presses and cutting devices. Analysis of the drugs was conducted by the Police Forensic Science section of the Mansfield Division of Police.

According to METRICH Commander Lt. Joseph D. Petrycki, the investigation was successful due to the co-operation between the Violent Fugitive Task Force and the METRICH Enforcement Unit sharing information. The two teams worked together to not only take a murder suspect off the streets but stopped a large portion of drugs from entering the Mansfield community.

Dowdell was jailed and served with Harris' murder warrant at the Richland County Jail, a first-degree felony. Dowdell will be facing additional drug trafficking charges after review by the Richland County Prosecutor's Office. He will remain at the Richland County Jail pending an upcoming court appearance.

Citizens are encouraged to be proactive by reporting suspected drug activity. Citizens can call the METRICH Crime Tip Hotline at 419-52-CRIME or the Task Force line at 419-755-9728.
