Head On Crash In Mount Vernon Leaves One Dead

MOUNT VERNON, OH - The Ohio Highway Patrol is currently investigating a two vehicle fatal crash on State Route 229 at Milepost 2 in Liberty Township of Knox County.

On October 11th, 2018 at 7:30 A.M, a 2013 Honda Civic driven by Douglas L. Christian, age 26 of Marengo, Ohio, was traveling eastbound on State Route 229. A 2009 Mazda 6 driven by Matthew D. Remillard, age 32 of Gambier, Ohio, was traveling westbound on State Route 229. 

Chrisitan attempted to pass an eastbound pick-up truck with a trailer when he struck Remillard's vehicle head-on. 

Remillard was pronounced dead at the scene. Christian was transported to Mount Carmel Hospital with life-threatening injuries. 

Mount Vernon Fire Department, EMS, ODOT, and the Knox County Sheriff's Office assisted on the scene. Alcohol or drugs are not believed to be a factor in this crash. Seat belts were in use in both vehicles. 

The crash remains under investigation.
