MANSFIELD, OH - Firefighters and Paramedics set up camp outside of Kroger Friday to collect non-perishable goods from shoppers.

They called it the "Mansfield Firefighters Local 266 Holiday Food Drive." Every donated item went to Mosaic at Park Avenue Baptist in Mansfield, an organization with a food pantry that feeds the needy within the community. They took donations from 9:00 AM until 7:00 PM, and were pleasantly surprised by the result.

"The turnout's been fantastic, surprisingly, overwhelmingly wonderful," said Firefighter Jeffrey Barker. "People have been dropping off stuff all day, we might need another truck."

Shoppers filled the fire truck with piles of cans, boxes, and bags, all of which went to benefit the church. Spaghetti sauce, peanut butter, potatoes, canned vegetables, pasta, macaroni and so much more were donated in the holiday spirit.

The goal of the holiday food drive, according to Barker, was to serve the community where they work. "Giving back the best way that we know possible," he said, "hopefully making somebody's holiday just a little bit better if they have a full belly."
