ASHLAND, OH - Tuesday afternoon Ashland High School held its first signing event for a senior who is set to attend Ohio Wesleyan University, but not for athletics- for art education.

Siarra Beugly will be graduating from Ashland High School and moving on to pursue a degree in art education, a passion that has been encouraged by her teachers.

"I am so excited. This is something that I have put my life into since I could draw. Getting to continue it as a career just makes it better," Siarra said. Her love of art was encouraged by Mr. Cameron Dederick, who taught her both in elementary school and in high school. "He has always been around to motivate me, and he's been a big inspiration. I've known him since I was tiny, he's always been there to support me. He has never let me down, and he's a big influence in what I want to do."

Dederick, a visual arts teacher at the high school, set up the event to support his long-time student. "It's always something special to us when one of our own becomes not only a teacher, but an art teacher as well," he said. He knew that signing events were common among athletes and other professions, and thought this would be the perfect day to host Ashland High School's first art signing.

Siarra's work will be on display along with art created by other students during Ashland High School's Fine Arts Festival.
