COLUMBUS, OH - The Ohio School Boards Association (OSBA) held its annual Central Region Spring Conference in Columbus on March 13, during which several educators and programs from Bucyrus and Ontario were recognized.

Dr. Paul Johnson, a member of the Board of Education and current Board President, received the OSBA Award of Achievement for his effort and dedication in serving the Bucyrus City School District students, staff and entire Bucyrus community.

“Dr. Johnson is a tremendous asset to our Board of Education, the district’s administrative staff and the Bucyrus community,” Bucyrus Superintendent Kevin Kimmel said. “I appreciate his dedication to advancing the educational environment for Bucyrus students and staff to relentlessly pursue their success.”

The Bucyrus Elementary School’s “Robotics and Code in Elementary School” program was recognized as an Outstanding Program during the event. The program was one of 100 selected to exhibit at the Student Achievement Fair during the 2018 OSBA Capital Conference.

“I am very honored and grateful to be recognized by the OSBA for our ‘Robotics and Coding’ achievements in the gifted program,” Gifted Intervention Specialist Michelle Vance said. “This award reflects the many accomplishments of our elementary gifted children and brings great pride to our school and students.”

Ontario School Board of Education Member Sam VanCura was honored and recognized for twenty years of service as a school board member.

"Sam is a dedicated board member who is a true champion for children. He cares deeply for our school district, and our students. Sam is committed to making our school district a great place to learn, to work, and to grow." says Superintendent Carmichael.
