BUCYRUS, OH - Several agencies responded to a residence in the 1500 block of Marion Road in Bucyrus Wednesday evening after a house arrest violation investigation turned into a tense confrontation between authorities and a 15-year-old male.

The Bucyrus Police Department received a call from the Juvenile Court around 7:00 PM Wednesday. The court stated that a juvenile had violated his house arrest and was tracked via electronic monitoring to an address on Marion Road. Officers were dispatched there to arrest the suspect, but when they arrived the situation had escalated.

They discovered that the suspect had forcefully entered the home and held the resident against her will. The suspect had made threats against her and was armed with a weapon, but the resident was able to escape by the time officers arrived. Portsmouth EMS transported her to Bucyrus hospital to be treated for trauma.

Meanwhile, the suspect was refusing to leave the residence.  Barriers were set up and traffic diverted in order to protect the public, and the Crawford County Special Response Team was called to the scene. A negotiator was able to get the suspect out of the home willingly and into police custody at 9:41 PM. He was taken to the Seneca County Juvenile Detention Center where he was charged with abduction, aggravated menacing, burglary, and felonious assault. He appeared in Juvenile Court Thursday morning for an arraignment hearing and is currently being held at a detention facility.

"We're all just very grateful that there were no injuries sustained," said Bucyrus Police Chief David Koepke. "We're very grateful it wasn't a whole lot worse because it could have been. It was terrifying for the victim and could have been a lot worse."

In addition to the Bucyrus Police Department and the Crawford County Special Response Team, the Ohio State Highway Patrol, the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, officers from the Galion Police Department and the Crawford County Sheriff's Office, as well as medics from the Bucyrus and Galion Fire Departments responded to the scene.
