MANSFIELD, OH- The Richland County Foundation's Annual Membership Meeting celebrated the foundation's accomplishments on Friday.

The event took place at the Dan Lew Exchange in downtown Mansfield and featured speakers such as Mansfield Christian School Superintendent, Dr. Cy J. Smith.  Smith spoke about the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education in schools.

President of the Richland County Foundation, Brady Groves, said that the event helped to celebrate all of the organization's success both throughout 2018 and all 74 years of its existence.

"What we have here is our annual meeting, to induct new trustees, thank outgoing trustees, and really just recognize all the fine work that our board and all our donors do for Richland County," Groves said.

Groves said that the foundation especially wanted to use the meeting to thank all of their supporters.  In 2018, the Richland County Foundation awarded a total of $8,427,603 in grant money in to various causes throughout the area.

The grant money goes to areas including community development, education, arts & culture, children & families, health services, economic development, churches, and the environment.  The largest amount of funding goes to community development with $4,119,773 awarded in 2018. The second largest group to receive funding was education having received $1.584,914 throughout 2018 with $624,561 of that going to scholarships.  The Richland County Foundation gave out a total 440 scholarship grants throughout the year.

"Really the highlight, we have over 120 people here," Groves said.  "We just really want to recognize the donors behind the Community Foundation.  The Community Foundation gets a lot of recognition for its work, but without the donors, without the people that are supporting these causes, a community foundation doesn't exist."
