ONTARIO, OH - The Ontario Police Department and the Ohio Highway Patrol worked together to stress the importance of wearing a seat belt on Monday morning.

Both Departments held a "Seat Belt Check" outside Ontario High School. If the driver and passenger were wearing their seat belts, they got a piece of candy. If not, they received an educational brochure to encourage the use of the safety belt.

The goal of the check was to stress to students the importance of wearing their seat belts.

The Ontario Police Departments reported that over 800 pieces of candy were handed out, and almost 100% of everyone that participated in the check was wearing their seatbelts.

The Ontario Police Department and the Ohio Highway Patrol thanked the community for promoting seat belt safety and for kicking off the summer driving season on a high note.
