The Fourth of July weekend is traditionally a dangerous holiday period on Ohio roads and the Ohio State Highway Patrol is encouraging motorists to think twice before getting behind the wheel impaired this holiday in an effort to prevent fatalities and injury accidents.

Sgt. Michael Roth of the Mansfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the patrol will be targeting aggressive drivers, impaired drivers and adult/child restraints.

He said the causes of crashes are excessive speed, following to close and failure to yield. Roth advises motorists to avoid distractions like cell phones, don't drink and drive and use your seat belt.

During last year's holiday, nearly 50 percent of the 15 people killed on Ohio roadways were involved in alcohol related crashes.

If see an aggressive or impaired driver on the road call star DUI from your cell phone or call 1-877-PATROL.
