  A Mt. Gilead police officer arrested in connection with the theft of a dozen air conditioners and a trailer has been terminated.

Joseph Hughes had been placed on unpaid administrative leave in connection with the thefts of the air conditioners and trailer, which were property of the Morrow County Commissioners.

Five additional charges have been filed against Hughes as the result of an investigation by the Morrow County Sheriff's Office. They include two counts of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, a fifth-degree felony count of breaking and entering, a fourth-degree felony count of grand theft and a fifth-degree felony count of grand theft.

Hughes has been taken back into custody and is currently incarcerated pending posting of bond.
