A former civic leader in the Mansfield community has passed away. Robert Enskat, the former plant manager of the Mansfield-Ontario General Motors Stamping Plant, died Tuesday at Wedgewood Estates after fighting cancer for the past two decades. Enskat was 85.

Enskat was regarded as second to none when it came to lending a helping hand in the community. The United Way of Richland County annually gives out the Robert Enskat Award which goes to the director or staff member of a non-profit agency who has performed outstanding volunteer efforts in the community.

He served in many capacities, as the former president of the Richland Economic Development Corporation, chairman of the Convention Facilities Authority Task Force, served on the Richland Academy Board and was an honorary life trustee at North Central State College.

Funeral arrangements are pending at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors.
